Salt-Make it yourself-Meatless Monday

It’s Monday, which means it’s the perfect time to embrace Meat-Free Mondays!

Today, we’re excited to show you how to make the ultimate vegetarian burger at home, a recipe that combines irresistible ingredients with a homemade touch. Perfect for a cosy dinner or impressing friends at a gathering.

Recreate Salt’s Veggie burger. Pop your apron on, and let’s get started!

Ingredients

  • Mushrooms: the star of the show, full of flavour with a fantastic texture.
  • White cheese: adds a creamy, delicious touch.
  • Spicy sauce: we use our signature Fire Sauce (we cant reveal the secret ingredients, just yet, but DM us on instagram for some secret tips that will get you closer to the real thing).
  • Potato bun: soft, fluffy, and slightly sweet.
  • Jalapeños: for a spicy touch.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Prepare the mushrooms
Clean and chop your mushrooms (a mix of portobello and button mushrooms works best). Sauté them in a pan with a little olive oil, chopped garlic, and a pinch of salt. Add a splash of soy sauce to enhance the umami flavour.

  1. Make your spicy sauce
If you don’t have our Fire Sauce, you can create your own with:

    • Chilli sauce
    • A drizzle of honey or agave syrup
    • A dash of smoked paprika or chipotle powder
And just like that, you’ve got a sauce that’s perfectly balanced between sweet and spicy (let me tell you, its far from being SALT’s secret Fiery Recipe, but it will get you started, thats for sure)!

  1. Prepare the jalapeños
Slice the jalapeños thinly. If you’d prefer something milder, swap them out for roasted or pickled peppers.

  1. Toast the bun
Choose a soft potato bun and lightly toast it in a pan with a touch of butter. This simple step adds extra flavour and a lovely texture to your burger.

  1. Assemble your burger
Now it’s time to bring it all together:
  • Start with a generous layer of mushrooms on the bottom bun.
  • Add a slice of white cheese for creaminess.
  • Top with jalapeños and a drizzle of your spicy sauce.
  • Place the top bun to finish.

Enjoy your masterpiece

And there you have it! A vegetarian burger worthy of a restaurant, ready to be enjoyed from the comfort of your own home.

If you’d rather not cook, you can always pop into Salt, and we’ll make one for you. But if you do give it a go, we’re sure it’ll be a hit.

Happy cooking, and enjoy! 🌱🍔
